For Pixel devices, Google now offers up to seven years of software support, which includes OS upgrades, security fixes, and feature releases.
August 13 is when the Google Pixel 9 Series is expected to go live worldwide. In the past several weeks, there have been multiple leaks that have revealed details about the next smartphones, including the display, CPU, and battery. A recent report, released before of its official release, speculates that, unlike to previous years, Google's flagship smartphones would not receive Android 15 at launch and instead use an older operating system (OS). On the other hand, it is rumoured that the Pixel 9 series may have faster charging. Concurrently, there has been a leak regarding the phone's storage options.
Operating System for Google Pixel 9 Series
Four models—the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, which is a new model that is probably going to make its debut this year—are anticipated in the Google Pixel 9 series. Android 14, the operating system from the previous year, will be used by all of the phones in the lineup, according to a report by Android Headlines. The Android 15 upgrade is reportedly being delayed because it isn't quite ready, despite the fact that many beta builds have been made available to developers recently and the device achieved "platform stability" in June. According to the source, Google would be launching its flagship smartphones with an older operating system for the first time.
A reported problem that needed to be fixed caused the Android 14 release to be delayed last year as well. But in September 2023, Google gave a sneak peek at the Pixel 8 series, which was then released and made available a month later. As a result, the phones were pre-installed with Android 14. Since the Pixel 9 launch is happening sooner this year than in previous years, that is probably not going to be the case. It is said that the models that will arrive in the next few days will have Android 14, but those that are bought later could have Android 15 when it is made available to the general public.
Google has committed to providing up to seven years of software support for its forthcoming devices, which includes security patches, OS upgrades, and Pixel feature releases. This was initially disclosed by Google for the Pixel 8 series last year, and it will also be included in the lineup of its 2024 flagships. This implies that the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) may provide software support for the Pixel 9 series devices till 2031.
Details about Google Pixel 9 Series Charging and Storage
Another story claims that 128GB of storage will be standard in the Pixel 9 series. There will be two storage capacities available for the basic model: 128GB and 256GB. However, there are reportedly four options available for both Pro models: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the replacement for the Pixel Fold from last year, will also be available in two storage capacities: 128GB and 256GB. But, only the latter will be marketed in India, according to the report.
It is anticipated that the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL variants would have 16GB of RAM, while the regular Pixel 9 model will have 12GB. According to the claim, Google may increase the charging speed of its next-generation devices. Juicing the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro "up to 55% in about 30 minutes" is reportedly possible with Google's 45W USB Type-C charger. It's anticipated that the largest non-foldable smartphone in the Pixel 9 family, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, would charge "up to 70% in about 30 minutes."
Even if the final release of Android 15 is quickly approaching, Android Headline reports that Google will launch the Pixel 9 series with the operating system Android 14. Google has always released its Pixel smartphones in tandem with the most recent version of the Android operating system. For example, the Pixel 8 released with Android 14 last year, although with a small delay because of bugs. Previous to that, Android 13 and Android 12 were also available for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6, respectively. This time, though, rumours indicate that Google may buck the trend, as Android 15 is already undergoing final testing.
Even though Google has released the last planned beta of Android 15, the final version is unlikely to be available by August 13. Nevertheless, the release date of Android 15 is drawing near. What caused the hold-up? Traditionally, Google releases its new Pixel series in October, two months after the release of the iPhone. However, this year, Google is unveiling the Pixel series two months ahead of schedule. Google's decision to ship the Pixel 9 ahead of the iPhone 16 this year, however, may have caused a minor setback in the company's OS distribution schedule. Nevertheless, since Android 15 is currently in the advanced phases of development, Pixel 9 customers won't have to wait much longer.
